Pinea is in a perfect location in the District. Adjacent to Pinea is the White House and not too far is the Washington Monument. Aside from the location, the service was good. The waiter was personable, attentive, and made sure we had a high level experience. We ordered cocktails and they came out immediately. The cocktails were the worst part of the evening in terms of quality. However, that is a smudge in comparison to how the meal went. We (a party of 3) ordered the bucatini, the beef carpaccio, a Cesar salad, and the scallops. The scallops were exquisite, perfectly cooked, and combined well with the carrot purée and sautéed oyster mushrooms. The bucatini is their signature dish, a gigantic meatball that is well cooked, but under seasoned. I would definitely go back.

We made a reservation for six people, and surprising at 6PM, the restaurant was practically ours. After some water-cooler chat (need to be hydrated in DC!), we started to feast. For starters, we ordered the Caesar with baby kale, parmigiano and anchovy. The nuttieness of the hazelnuts in the Pinea salad worked beautifully with the rest of the veggies, but my only complaint is the overdose of vinegar which made the whole thing too sour to digest. And I never thought I'd do this, but I did it. I ordered a burger. And I say this because I don't usually like burgers, but something about the Wagnyu-ness attracted me to it. I am so glad I did, because, it was the best burger I'd ever eaten. The patty was made with premier wagyu meat, grilled to perfection (for me, that's medium-well) with a bit of char. The smoky texture of the patty worked beautifully with the fontina that just melted into the patty. I can't really speak for the lamb in the lamb porterhouse, but the saffron fingerling potatoes were well done with a bit of crisp on the outside. The fava been purée added a nice touch of color to the dish. The vegetable paella came with spring vegetables and manchego cheese, with an option of chicken or shrimp. We got this one with shrimp, whose meat provided some contrast to the softness of the dish and gave it more oomph. The arctic char came with grilled veggie salad and charred lemon. It looked and probably tasted splendid. All in all, the Pinea was an excellent end to our DC sojourn, especially given its proximity to the Monument where you can go for a stroll afterwards for an evening walk. The total tab for six with six mains and four sides came out to be around $280, which is quite reasonable for this level of service and attention to detail. More details @ foodprof.com!

As the weather gets warmer, there is no shortage of restaurants with al fresco dining! If you ever find yourself by the White House, don't miss the opportunity to stop by Pinea for a very extravagant outdoor (as well as indoor) dining experience. RUNDOWN: - Because of its prime location, it's often very packed and the seating outdoors is only available via reservations. However, if there's a seat at the outdoor bar, feel free to hang around there until your reservation. - They usually have fun events outside like Luche Libre fights during Cinco de Mayo, which are free admission (but this can add to how crowded it gets as well) - Service here is good, servers are attentive and very welcoming. The bartenders also have VERY generous pours, so I can't complain! - The food is yummy as well! Although everything is pretty pricey, they also have shareable dishes for groups, which is a major plus I look for. - They have two outdoor lanes of bocce ball! This further proves how great this place is for bringing groups of friends. TIPS/RECS: - *IMPORTANT* If you are seated outdoors, you CAN NOT order drinks from the bar (takes the tips away from your server). Order both food and drinks from your server. - Get reservations!! It's always super crowded, and you'll thank me later for this tip! TLDR; I am a huge fan of their service and food/drinks, IDEAL for groups of friends -- I'll definitely be back!

What a great breakfast! Pinea is located at the W hotel very close to the capital. The dining room is beautifully decorated. My mom and I both had the two eggs, potatoes and toast. They were the freshest and most delicious eggs I have ever had. My husband did the ricotta pancakes which was a generous portion and they were nice and fluffy. My dad told the French toast with blueberry compote and whipped yogurt. I took one star off for a few reasons. OJ was $6 and coffee was $4 which I thought was a little high. Also, I asked the waitress if I could substitute something for my potatoes (they have fresh fruit on the menu) and she quickly said the chef wouldn't allow. Overall a good experience and I would recommend.
